Body Scrub or Body Butter First? Your Simple Routine Guide

Jar of J'Zuri Naturals Exfoliating Sugar Scrub with the brand's label

It's one of the questions we hear most often: do you use a body scrub first, or body butter? The answer is simple: scrub first, then moisturize. A sugar scrub lifts away dull, dry surface skin, and body butter locks in softness right after.

Step 1: Scrub gently

In a warm shower or bath, massage a small handful of our sugar scrub over damp skin in slow, circular motions. Let the fine sugars do the work; firm pressure isn't needed. Focus on areas that tend to feel rough, like elbows, knees, and heels.

Step 2: Rinse thoroughly

Rinse with warm, not hot, water until no sugar remains. Warm water helps carry the oils away without leaving skin feeling stripped.

Step 3: Pat dry

Gently pat your skin with a soft towel, leaving it slightly damp rather than completely dry.

Step 4: Moisturize while skin is damp

Within a few minutes of drying, smooth on a rich body butter. Applying it to slightly damp skin helps seal in that moisture, leaving skin feeling soft and supple for hours.

A note for sensitive skin

If your skin is sensitive, take it slow: exfoliate less often, use a light touch, and skip scrubbing any area that feels irritated or has broken skin. A small patch test before trying a new product is always a sensible step, and if irritation occurs, discontinue use.
